Welcome to the Looks Elegant Fitting Guide

At Looks Elegant, every dress is crafted to complement your silhouette with flawless precision. Whether you are selecting a standard size or choosing a custom-made creation, taking precise body measurements ensures your gown fits seamlessly from the moment it arrives.

Follow our simple step-by-step instructions below to capture your exact proportions, or share your measurements with our atelier team for tailored assistance.

Important Tips Before You Begin:

  • Use the right tool: Always use a flexible fabric or vinyl measuring tape (not a metal ruler).

  • Proper posture: Stand straight, relaxed, and barefoot with your feet together.

  • What to wear: Measure over lightweight undergarments or a fitting bra (preferably the type you plan to wear under your dress).

  • Tape tension: Keep the tape comfortably snug against your body—it should be flat without squeezing or pinching your skin.

  • Get assistance: For the most accurate results (especially for Hollow to Hem), we highly recommend having someone else take the measurements for you.

The Core Body Measurements:

1- Bust:

  • How to measure: Wrap the measuring tape horizontally around the fullest part of your bust (at the fullest point of the breasts).

  • Visual Guide & Posture: Ensure the tape runs completely around your back and chest, keeping it parallel to the floor without pulling too tightly.

       2- Waist: (Tour de Taille)

    • How to measure: Locate your natural waistline, which is the narrowest part of your torso (typically 1 to 2 inches above your belly button). Wrap the tape around your waist while breathing normally.

    • Visual Guide & Posture: Keep the tape parallel to the floor and snug against your body, but not restrictive. Avoid holding your breath or pulling the tape in too tight.

    3- Hips:

    • How to measure: Stand with your feet together and wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of your hips and buttocks (typically 7 to 9 inches below your natural waistline)

    • Visual Guide & Posture: Keep the tape level and parallel to the floor all the way around. Make sure the tape is snug against your skin, but flexible enough to glide smoothly over your hip bones

    4- Hollow to Floor:

    • How to measure: Stand barefoot with your feet together, look straight ahead, and measure from the hollow of your neck (the dip right between your collarbones) straight down to the floor.

    • Visual Guide & Posture: Keep your body upright with relaxed shoulders. Ensure the measuring tape drops vertically in a straight line without bending or curving over the bust. (Note: If you plan to wear heels with your dress, include your heel height or measure while wearing your wedding shoes).

    5- Shoulder Width:

    •  How to measure: Measure across the back from the edge of one shoulder bone (the outer point           where your arm meets your shoulder) to the edge of the other shoulder bone.

    • Visual Guide & Posture: Stand with your shoulders relaxed and naturally squared. Ensure the measuring tape follows the slight natural curve of your upper back from one outer shoulder seam point to the opposite side

    6-  Arm Lenght:

    • How to measure: Bend your arm slightly at a comfortable 90-degree angle, placing your hand on your hip. Measure from the outer tip of your shoulder bone down your elbow, continuing all the way to your wrist bone.

    • Visual Guide & Posture: Keep your posture relaxed and ensure the tape follows the natural contour of your bent arm. For dresses with long sleeves or custom cuffs, this measurement ensures absolute comfort and graceful movement.

    7- Armhole:

    • How to measure: Wrap the measuring tape over the top of your shoulder and down around under your armpit, bringing it back up to meet at the top point of your shoulder.

    • Visual Guide & Posture: Keep your arm resting naturally at your side. The tape should fit smoothly around the armhole seam area—snug enough for precision, but comfortable enough to allow natural arm movement without pinching.

    8- Upper Arm:

    • How to measure: Wrap the measuring tape horizontally around the fullest part of your upper arm (biceps), located between your shoulder joint and elbow.

    • Visual Guide & Posture: Keep your arm relaxed and resting naturally at your side. Do not flex your biceps or pull the tape too tight—the tape should sit flat against your skin while allowing room for comfortable movement.

    9- Hell Height:

    • How to measure: Measure the vertical distance from the bottom of the heel tip to the flat platform or sole base of your wedding shoes.

    • Visual Guide & Posture: Place your shoes on a flat, level surface and use a rigid ruler or measuring tape to capture the exact height of the heel you plan to wear on your wedding day. (Note: This measurement is essential for calculating your final Hollow-to-Floor length if you are ordering a custom-made gown).

Expert Tips for a Flawless Fit:

    • Between Sizes: If your measurements fall between two sizes on our size chart, we always recommend choosing the larger size. High-fashion and bridal garments are designed with structured seams, making it much easier for a professional seamstress to take a dress in for a custom fit than to let it out.

    • Undergarments Matter: Always measure yourself wearing the exact type of bra, shapewear, or undergarments you intend to wear on your special day to ensure the pattern aligns perfectly with your silhouette.
